Who Else Wants to See Something New?

How about a day trip with or without the kids?

If the beaches of New Jersey are not quite ready for sunbathing and you're hankering for a change of pace, you might want to consider taking a day trip.

Take a trip and see something you may not have seen before? How about looking at something that is not work related or connected to a computer screen? Well - take out your EZpass and cross the border to NYC.

Last Sunday after a fun time at Wyatt's Birthday Bash at the Chelsea Pier's sports center, we took a walk.

Two blocks over and up a stairs we climbed to the High Line. Up above the streets in a world of its own is this amazing old railway path. It starts on the Westside at Gansevoort and continues north to West 30th.

View from the High Line pathway
The path reveals the old train tracks and also the artistry of the many buildings you pass along the way. One artist achieved an incredible installation of mirror and some sort of building facade, that stops you dead in your tracks.

If you look at the photo below, at first you think you are looking at all blue sky. But on closer look - voila, you note that it is actually mirror panels on a building that is reflecting the sky. Cool!

 "Mirror, Mirror on the wall"

Now if that doesn't do it for you, maybe what you need is to catch some rays. Put your feet up for once! After all, you did the walk, now you get the prize for all your efforts.

Yes, I did the walk, now I can soak in the Sun

My only disappointment, was that the 'tunnel's food and beverage vendors were nowhere in sight. No problem. Once you 'do the walk' you see that the streets you pass have plenty of places to enjoy lunch, a cappuccino or my favorite, hot cocoa. (We also watched skaters at a skating rink below the High Line path.)

Hot Cocoa for all!

OK, so now that you've read this far, go make yourself some hot cocoa and plan your trip to the Big Apple before the crowds return.
